In today’s world, dominated by coercion among nations, it’s irresponsible to continue to turn a blind eye to the multifaceted complexity of a prudent policy to meet Europe’s energy needs.
It’s also a point of concern that we don’t seem to notice the results of the much-needed energy transition set in motion at the 2015 COP 21 in Paris. Emissions continue to rise.
Despite the tremendous efforts being made in China and India to generate clean electricity through renewable and nuclear sources, the widespread use of coal in power generation and industry is responsible for this rise in emissions.
Furthermore, the structural change in observed meteorological parameters confirms the severity of the climate situation. Global mitigation measures are not yielding results.
This means it’s time to stop whining about a world that will unfortunately not go back to normal in several decades.
The invasion of Ukraine, closure of the Strait of Hormuz, unpredictable tariffs and the dismantling of the European Union’s industrial and mining sectors have exacerbated the consequences of the energy policy pursued to date.
Germany had no reason to shut down its nuclear power plants or surrender its energy sovereignty to a non-democratic government.
