Simultaneous translation in the case of international speakers

A renowned global analyst and author of the forthcoming book Super Power, on the future of energy and climate, and former energy editor of The Economist. He specialises in economics, energy, technological innovation and sustainability.
Since joining The Economist in 1992, he has held a range of editorial roles in the United States, China and other regions. He led the opening of the publication’s offices in Mexico City and Shanghai, and has established himself as an influential voice on the energy transition, global markets and the impact of innovation on the world economy.
Throughout his career, he has covered energy policy, climate change and clean technologies. He has also moderated international debates and played an active role in thought leadership initiatives within The Economist Group. He is a regular speaker at high-level forums such as the World Economic Forum, where he addresses issues including sustainability, geopolitics and global trends.
Educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University, he combines academic rigour with extensive experience in emerging economies and analysis of China’s role in international markets, positioning him as a global authority on energy and economic transformation.

Professor at the Florence School of Regulation, European University Institute; former Deputy Director-General for Energy at the European Commission; and Counsel at Baker McKenzie, specialising in energy, regulation and EU competition law. He advises companies and institutions on the energy transition, energy markets, renewable energy, climate policy and ESG regulation.
He has more than 30 years’ experience at the European Commission, where he held senior positions including Deputy Director-General for Energy, Director for Renewable Energy, and Head of Unit for Energy and Gas. He played a key role in developing the internal energy market, liberalising European energy markets and drafting the EU electricity and gas directives.
A specialist in competition law, he has worked on merger control, antitrust and energy market regulation, contributing to the economic approach to EU competition policy.
He combines his professional practice with teaching, and is the author and editor of leading works on energy and competition law. He holds a law degree from the University of Reading and studied at the College of Europe.
